Heartland is one of six co-owners in the Laramie River Station (LRS) near Wheatland Wyoming. LRS is a coal-fired electric generating station with a total capacity of 1,650,000 kilowatts. Coal for the plant is brought from mines near Gillette WY. LRS has been nationally ranked as the most cost-efficient of its kind five of the past six years. It was constructed in 1980 for approximately $1.6 billion.
