Heartland provides wholesale electric power and energy to twenty-seven municipal electric systems in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. We provide similar services to six state institutions in South Dakota, as well as to a portion of the service area of Northern Electric Power Cooperative near Frederick, South Dakota, and to NIMECA, a joint action agency serving thirteen municipal electric utilities in Iowa.

Heartland serves as a partial, supplemental and full requirement power supplier, depending on the customer's needs. Our customers are primarily rural, agriculture-based communities with populations of less than 3,000.
