Marathon Water Heaters

Water heating accounts for 14 to 25% of residential energy consumption and the majority of water heaters sold each year are unplanned purchases due to failure of the old heater.  Most are sold through retail outlets with little to no consumer education.  Heartland has developed a relationship with Marathon Water Heaters, the longest lasting, most efficient heaters available, to provide incentives to customers for selling Marathons at their utilities.  Offering Marathons through the city utility gives our customers the opportunity to promote an efficient product which will save their customers money while retaining or obtaining the non-seasonal water heating load.  The cost, efficiency and environmental benefits of the Marathon are immeasurable.

Heartland will award $2,500 to Heartland customers who begin selling Marathons and help customize a program specific to each community’s needs.

Two and a half inches of Polyurethane Envirofoam™ insulation in a Marathon allows for only a five degree standy-by heat loss in a 24-hour period.  The high efficiency also makes these water heaters ideal for load management systems as the consumer won't notice the heater is being controlled.

A Marathon's tough, molded polyethylene outer shell resists dents and scratches and a seamless, blow-molded polybutene inner tank wrapped in filament-wound fiberglass means no rust and no corrosion – ever.  This renowned durability eliminates the cost of buying and re-installing a new water heater every 10 years (national average), keeping them out of landfills. This coupled with energy savings makes the total cost of ownership lower than typical water heaters.

Marathon also provides world-class customer service and support. They provide sales and marketing support, a literature package, free promotional banner and poster, free listing on the Marathon web site, a $250 advertising allowance, 50% off a full-sized unit for lobby display, free on-site training and more.

Sioux Falls Green Project

Beginning in 2010, Heartland pledged to sponsor the Sioux Falls Green Project, a special interest group formed to unite people, buisinesses and schools in Sioux Falls, S.D., to building a cleaner and greener future.

The mission of the project is to create a movement that will educate and inspire the community to build a greener future in the areas of recycling, water conservation, energy consumption and development.  The idea is to unite individual green efforts through research, community awareness, education and reporting in order to collectively make a greater impact on the environment.

The project's website offers a variety of tips for living a greener lifestyle at home, work or school.  It also provides a forum to discuss ideas for living greener and users can sign up for email updates.  The project also organizes Green Drinks, an informal monthly mixer for networking with other environmentally minded people and co-organizes the annual Plain Green conference.

The city of Sioux Falls, a Heartland customer, is one of the project's founding partners.  Sponsors must show a dedication to the green movement, and our commitment to renewable energy and energy efficiency make us a perfect fit.  Visit www.siouxfallsgreenproject.com for more information.

APPA

Heartland has partnered with the American Public Power Association to promote energy efficiency. APPA has developed Energy Efficiency Resource Central, public power’s national information resource for energy efficiency programs and assistance. The goals of the program include informing all public power utilities about Energy Efficiency Resource Central, assisting members in implementing energy efficiency programs, sharing available resources and capturing and accumulating information on energy efficiency efforts and savings to demonstrate public power’s commitment to energy efficiency. Visit www.EERCnet.org to learn more.

ENERGY STAR

ENERGY STAR is the recognized symbol for energy efficiency with more than 70% of American households recognizing the ENERGY STAR label. The label appears on more than 50 product categories with those products being 10 to 25% more efficient than required by the federal standard while providing top performance and innovative features. In this partnership, Heartland has committed to promoting ENERGY STAR products and programs as an easy way to save on energy bills. A partnership with ENERGY STAR gives Heartland access to a vast amount of resources, networking opportunities and brand recognition.
