The Power of Forward Thinking

Laramie River Station

Laramie River Station (LRS) is currently in its fourth decade of providing dependable, low-cost power and energy toLaramie River Station Heartland and our customers. A three-unit, 1,710 megawatt (MW), coal-fired generating station, LRS has been part of Heartland's resource portfolio since it was constructed in 1980 as part of the Missouri Basin Power Project (MBPP). Located near Wheatland, Wyoming, it remains one of the most reliable and environmentally-compliant coal-fired plants in the nation.

Heartland owns a 3% undivided share of MBPP, which entitles us to 51 MW from LRS. We receive power from Unit 1, the only LRS unit connected to the Eastern Interconnect. MBPP owners have continuously upgraded all three units of LRS to provide state-of-the-art emission controls and to ensure optimal output, with plans to operate LRS for at least two more decades.
Grayrocks Reservoir
MBPP includes the Grayrocks Dam and Reservoir and nearly 650 miles of high-voltage transmission lines. MBPP is owned by a group of six regional, consumer-owned electric utilities. In addition to Heartland, MBPP partners include Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Tri-State Generaton and Transmission Association, Missouri River Energy Services, Lincoln Electric System and Wyoming Municipal Power Agency. Basin Electric was the construction manager for MBPP and remains the operating agent.
