The Power of Forward Thinking

Wessington Springs Wind Energy Generation

The Wessington Springs Wind Farm, a 51 megawatt wind project near Wessington Springs, South Dakota, has been online since March of 2009.

Heartland signed a Renewable Energy Purchase Power Agreement in 2007 with Babcock & Brown, a global investment firm, to purchase the full output of the project.  Construction of the 34-turbine wind farm began in the spring of 2008 and was completed in time for a Grand Opening in October of 2008.

With the addition of the wind farm to our power supply portfolio, we have shown our commitiment to meeting the Renewable Energy Objective for the State of South Dakota and the Renewable Energy Standard for the State of Minnesota.
